The whole idea of hydroponic gardening is to grow vegetables and fruits without the need for soil. This type of gardening has been around for a very long time, but hasn’t gain popularity until recently. Hydroponic gardening offers several advantages over traditional gardening which is why many people are wanting to know more about it.
Plants that are grown in a hydroponic garden get their nutrition from the nutrient rich water through their roots. Since the water is rich in nutrients, the plant does not need large roots or long roots to search for nutrition. Since the plant don’t need to waste energy growing their roots, those energy are used to grow the plants above the rootline instead. Plants grown in this type of garden tend to be more healthy and stronger than those grown in garden filled based on soil.
The principles of hydroponic gardening are very simple. The hydroponic systems will be categorized as active or passive. With an active system, to move the nutrients into the container to feed the plants, there will be a pump nearby with tubes leading into and out of the container. Somewhere along the tube will have a small container or opening where you add the nutrient solution into the water. This constant supply of water will provide the plants with nutrient, and oxygen rich water all the time.
In a passive hydroponic system the nutrient solution will be absorbed by the medium or the wick and passed along to the plant’s roots. The disadvantages of using this system is that the wick will get too wet and not supply enough oxygen to the root system.
Both of these system can be built from scratch, but if you don’t have the knowledge, they can be bought from many reputable online retailers. There are many online stores that offer hydroponic gardening systems.
